According to David Shahoulian, Democratic Chief Counsel, Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, Committee on the Judiciary, House of Representatives, the following proposals may be included as part of Comprehensive Immigration Reform:

– If you are a U.S. citizen and would like to sponsor a foreign national sibling or married son or daughter, ACT NOW.  Comprehensive Immigration Reform may include measures that would eliminate these preference categories.  If you have been thinking about sponsoring a family member, now is the time!

– The Diversity Visa Lottery may end.  If you had planned on applying in the future, please begin looking at alternative options to come the U.S.

– There may be additional visas available for unskilled workers.  Employers who traditionally hire H-2B workers should get in touch with Orner & O’Brien to stay abreast of any changes.

– Backlogs in employment-based and family-based priority dates should improve significantly.
